Rules and Regulations

 

  1. Participants
  2. All professional dancers, students of ballet or contemporary dance, as well as amateurs, from Austria and abraod are eligible.
  3. Age-restriction
    All participants up to 27 years.

  4. 3.Categories
  5. Professional Dancers (Category D) 
    Age between 18 – 27 years
    2 rounds, 3 different classic variations of the ballet repertoire of the 19th and 20th ballet repertoire (in the final may be one neoclassic variation of the 21st century)
    Category D1 (Professional Dancers) – only Solo and classical variations 
    1st round: 1 variation from classic balletrepertoires (see list of mandatory variations)
    2nd round/finale: at least 1 classic variation (see list of mandatory variatons), second variation can be a classic or a neoclassic (free choice) from choreographers of the 21st century (eg John Cranko, Kenneth McMillan, Boris Eifman, Yuri Grigorowitsch, Rudolf Nureyew, Youri Vámos, F. Aston, J. Neumeier, ...)
    Category D2 (Professional Dancers Pas de Deux)
    1st round: 1 Pas de Deux from classic ballet repertoires (19th and 20th century)
    2nd round/finale: 1 Pas de Deux from classic ballet repertoires (19th and 20th century) or a neoclassic variation from choreographers of the 21st century (eg John Cranko, Kenneth McMillan, Boris Eifman, Yuri Grigorowitsch, Rudolf Nureyew, Youri Vámos, F. Aston, J. Neumeier, ...), no repetition of the first round Pas de Deux in the second round/finale.
  6. Students (Category B) – only Solo and classical variations
    Children and youth who regularly a professional ballet school. Participants of Category B may also compete in a higher category, but they will be judged by the higher category rules. 
    Category B1 from the age of 13 to 15 years
                2 rounds; 1 or 2 variations, but 1 could be repeated
    Category B2 from the age of 16 to 19 years
                2 rounds; 2 different variations
  7. Private schools (Category A) – Solo or GroupFor children attending a non-professional ballet school once or twice a week.
    Participants may perform a children's dance or a scene from a well-known ballet. It is not necessary to choose a dance from the mandatory variations.
    The first round will take place by DVD transmittal, youtube link or facebook link of the dance. The video must not be identical wich the dance presented by the competition. Deadline is 10th June 2014.  The qualified dancers will be invited to the contest.

  8. Modern and Contemporary Dancers (Category C) – Solo or GroupThe first round will take place by DVD transmittal, youtube link or facebook link of the dance. The video must not be identical wich the dance presented by the competition. Deadline is 10th June 2014. The qualified dancers will be invited to the contest.The performance will be judged according to choreographymusicality, dance technique, context, course of movement and the presentation among other criteria. Category C1 (Solo) from the age to 27 years, performance duration max 3 minutesCategory C2 (Group, of min 3 pers) up to 27 years, performance duration max 4 minutes

 9.Registration 

The registration form and all necessary documents (see below) have to be send by mail or e-mail until 10th June 2014
Necessary documents:

  • filled registration form (see downloadlink www.wienweltwettbewerb.com)
  • copy of passport (passport number, photo, personal data, date, place and authority of issue)
  • portrait picture and a photo of dance pose for the competition
    Please save the photos as .jpg with a resolution of min 300 dpi and max 1 MB!
  • short CV (education, career, teachers, previous competitions and awards, repertoire and list of roles performed)
  • DVD or youtube link or facebook link of a short dance performance needed from all categories (except Students of category B and professional dancers of category D)

Within 14 days, after receiving the documents, you will get a letter of acknowledgment. Please notice that this letter is not equal to the authorisiation to participate in the contest. The management reserves the right to refuse registrations. 

 

  1. Permitt to the contest
    You will get a notification from the commitee about your successfull permitt. After that we would kindly ask you to send us your CD (.wav or .mp3) with needed music, at the latest 3 weeks before the contest per mail. Only in exceptional cases (!) can you present your CD on arrival. 
  2. Music
    Every music title must be on a seperate CD.

    Labelling:
    Name of participant; category A (Amateurs), B (Students), D (Professional Dancers) or C (Modern & Contemporary Dancers); choreography, variation and round

  3. Jury and evaluation
    International expert jury consisting of directors of ballet schools, choreographers, dancers, artisitc directors, and so on. Dancers will be evaluated by a point system. 
  4. Agenda and prices
    The competition consists of 1 or 2 rounds with a finale and gala. The award ceremony will be part of the gala, to which international guests will be invited. Depending on our possibilities some of the finalists' costs will be reimbursed.

    The prizes are prize money for the first 3 places (men and women) Grand Prix in category D, scholarships (eg ImPulsTanz Workshop, Ballettakademie der Wiener Staatsoper and other schools), prize from "Freunde der Wiener Staatsoper" (money prize), possible engagements, awards for the best talent and interpretation, medals, cups and diplomas. The jury is not obliged to give the Grand Prix.

  5. Place
    The gala will take place in the famous Volkstheater in Vienna. The stages for rounds and finals will be announced on time. 
  6. Access to stages and theatres 
    All participants, incl. one accompanying person (teacher, trainer) have free access. They will get an identity card. Parents are not allowed backstage. For the contest stage performance, all participants and their acompanying person will be given a free ticket, and for the gala evening they can buy a ticket at50 % reduction. 
  7. Dance rehearsal
    The detailed timeplan will be posted in the theatres, office of the commitee and in the hotels. 
  8. Workshops and master classes 
    The commitee classifies the categories for the workshop, which are not strictly mandatory. Highly qualified experts lead the workshops and Vladimir Malakhov the master classes. Participants in the contest may attend the ImPulsTanz workshops at reduced prices. 
  9. Participation fee
    Within one week, after receivin the permitt of participation to the contest, the fee has to be paid to the following account:

 10.Liability

The registration fee does not contain any kind of insurance. Wien-Welt-Wettbewerb 2014 assume no liability for accidents or damage within hotels and theatres during the contest duration. 

11.All travel or accomodation costs are to be covered by the participants, but we can offer you cheaper accomodations and hotels, see www.wienweltwettbewerb.com.

We can also arrange a pick up service from airport or station for you. 

12.Mandatory variations for Category B2 and Category D (B1 can be a choreography in the classical style, according to the ability of the student.)

 These terms and conditions regulate the relationship between the participants and the organizers (contract organization). They are subject to occasional change. They are in their current version, at time of registration, part of the contract between organizers and participants. Modifications, taking into account the legitimate interests of the participants and the organizers, announced on the internet or in written form, are readily become part of the terms and conditions.
